The alternative rock boom of 1990 and major success
When a few talented musicians formed the band first in 1986, they probably didn’t anticipate that their sound would influence countless other bands in the future. It all started with young guitarist Joey Santiago and Black Francis, who met at university and started jamming together. Soon after their official stage debut, the band was discovered by a producer and released their first mini-LP "Come on Pilgrim" in 1987. Their subsequent albums "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle" received particular recognition in Europe, even though the band hailed from the United States. Their eclectic sound and loud-quiet shifts fit well into the rising alternative-rock sound that soared in Europe at the time. However, America eventually caught on by honouring their sound; their debut album went Gold in the United States in 2005. Their sound was perceived as quite difficult to commercialise when they first started out, but they laid the founding soil for alternative rock as an established sound and have influenced a wide range of other bands, including The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Weezer, for example. To see one of the founding fathers of alternative rock, buy your tickets for Pixies on StubHub today, or resell them on our platform, we are sure someone else would love to have them if you cannot attend anymore.
A reunion that made them even more popular
After tensions boiled between some band members in the early 1990s, the band announced a hiatus in 1993. The many tours and quick success was plenty to handle and they concentrated on solo projects for a while. But good things usually last. In 2004, the band eventually announced their reunion and came out even more popular than before. Their world tour saw sold-out stadiums and their new sound was celebrated and well received, critically and commercially. With a little change in lineup, their sound rocks as much as back in the 1980s, so there is every reason for you—whether an old or new fan—to secure your tickets for Pixies on StubHub.
