Mick Jenkins - not your average rapper
Mick Jenkins's real name is actually Jayson, makes bold personal and political statements with his smart rhymes. Some people even consider Jenkins to be more of a poet than a rapper and he has become synonymous with his hometown Chicago, famous for producing some of the greatest rap artists of all time. Jenkins himself says 'This city is intertwined in everything I say - I almost can't separate it' as he tries to be the voice of the people of Chicago that are often forgotten and hardly ever spoken about.
In 2014, Jenkins released his single "Martyrs", which combined catchy music with insightful lyrics leading to many praising Mick Jenkins for his musical talent and impressive lyricism. Later, Jenkins released his ambitious project The Water[s] to huge critical acclaim. In 2015, Mick Jenkins signed to record label Cinematic Music Group, shortly after releasing an EP Wave[s] in August of the same year. Yet it was his debut album The Healing Component (THLC) that got tounges wagging. When the LP was released it debuted at number 9 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, as well as performing well in New Zealand, Australia and several European countries.
