Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor chose her stage name Lorde due to her fascination with aristocracy: feeling the name Lord to feel too masculine, she added an ‘e’ to feminise the name! Just coming out of her teens, Lorde has proved that given drive and talent, age means nothing and is quickly standing as the pride of New Zealand! Lorde actually started her path towards fame at the age of thirteen, when an A&R scout, Scott Maclachlan, signed her to Universal after having heard a recording of the little prodigy covering Duffy’s hit track “Warwick Avenue” and Pixie Lott’s “Mama Do”. When she released The Love Club for free on SoundCloud, the debut EP quickly rose in popularity, being downloaded a staggering sixty thousand times.
Soon after, “Royals” made its way to Sean Parker’s influential Spotify playlist Hipster International where the song rapidly became an international success! Alongside topping the New Zealand charts, “Royals” topped the US Billboard Alternative Songs Chart, making Lorde the first female to do so in almost seventeen years! Demand for Lorde to follow up “Royals” reached feverish heights, and with that in mind, she released her following EP Tennis Court EP in 2013! Having been included in 2014's Forbes “30 Under 30” issue with the likes of Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber, Lorde has made an incredible impact on the world of music despite her youth. So if you want a chance to see Lorde tour once again, buy your Lorde tickets now!
