Jake Bugg background
Jake Bugg was born and raised in Nottingham and first started playing guitar at the age of 12. Within a year, Bugg had started composing his own songs. At this time, hip-hop and grime were dominating the English airwaves, yet Jake Bugg turned to the classics like the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix for his inspiration. When he was 17, a local DJ started playing one of his songs and, soon after, Jake Bugg was invited to play at Glastonbury, signed to Mercury and joined Lana Del Rey on tour. In 2012, Jake Bugg released his eponymously titled debut album which was heralded as an authentic and insightful debut, spawning the popular tracks "Lightning Bolt", "Two Fingers" and "Country Song". Since Bugg tore the music door wide open in 2012, he has gone on to release three further albums, each of which differ noticeably in style.
Collaborating with famed producer Rick Rubin, 2013's Shangri La received mixed reviews, but earned the singer a Brit Award nomination, losing out to Ben Howard. Jake Bugg's third album On My One was released in 2016 and was largely self-produced, incorporating hip-hop and dance into his classic indie style. Singles like "Gimme the Love" and "On My One" proved popular with fans. Ever the workaholic, 2017 saw the new Jake Bugg album Hearts That Strain and Jake Bugg is on tour promoting the album with a series of intimate acoustic concerts.
