Brighton & Hove Albion FC on the edge of oblivion
It's hard to imagine now, but only 20 years ago the Seagulls were nearly relegated from the entire English football league. That's right, when fans of Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Hereford FC woke up on the morning of 3 May 1997, they knew that by dinnertime one of them would no longer be in the football league. This had been an especially difficult season for Brighton, with debts spiraling out of control the club were considering selling their stadium, the Goldstone Ground, to raise some urgently needed cash. Brighton only needed a draw, but after 21 minutes they were 1-0 down and footballing oblivion beckoned. However, now club legend, Robbie Renelt scored a crucial equaliser in the 62nd minute. Cue euphoria for Brighton & Hove Albion FC, heartbreak for Hereford FC. The rest, as they say, is history.
Premier League 2019/20 for Brighton & Hove Albion FC?
Like most recently promoted teams, the Seagull's main objective will undoubtedly be to continue on with improving and moving up the ranks in the Premier League. They’ve started the Pre-season on a good foot and have high hopes for this season with a win, three draws, and just one lost. After Leicester City's amazing title win in 2016, smaller clubs are starting to dream big. More likely is that Brighton will try to build slowly, carefully putting pieces into place to ensure success in the future. The good news is that they have decided to continue on with top goalscorer, Glenn Murray, for another season! This may mean that their first seasons in the Premier League will be a difficult one, but you never know!
